Lemon Mint is a 1' to 2' tall native short lived perennial, or sometimes annual, whose common name is derived from the pleasant lemony fragrance of the flowers. It flowers in spring and early summer and features whorls of aromatic lavender to pink flowers on long terminal spikes. Lemon Mint prefers dry to medium soils in full sun or part shade and is usually found in prairies, meadows, and open fields. Lemon Mint is easy to grow, easy to maintain, forms large colonies, and is a great garden flower. Bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators are attracted to this lemon-scented mint. The plant has a history of use for tea and raw in salads.
