June Grass is a 6" to 2' tall native perennial cool season grass. It is valued as an ornamental grass, as a turf grass, and as a forage grass. June Grass has a much larger native distribution than many of the other prairie grasses and is found in all but the extreme southeastern states. It prefers dry to medium moisture soils in full sun but thrives in a wide variety of soils and climates. June Grass is used as a garden ornamental and it tolerates repeated mowing as a turf grass. Its early spring growth provides excellent forage for livestock and wildlife.
