Eastern Bur Reed is a 2' to 3' tall native perennial forb featuring cattail like leaves and stalks of spherical 1" wide bur-like clusters of greenish white flowers. It needs wet soils and prefers full sun but will tolerate partial shade. This plant flowers in the spring and is almost always found in wetlands. It is usually found in muddy or shallow water or in swamps and ponds. This is an important wetland restoration specie and is used in retention basins.
