Plume Grass is an imposing 6' to 10' tall native perennial warm season grass. It features a large, fluffy, plume-like silvery seed heads that may be 1' or more long. Plume Grass is a late summer flowering plant with a wide native distribution in the east. It grows best in medium to wet sandy soils in full sun or partial shade. For the garden it is best for the bogs, rain gardens, or pond areas. It was a dominant grass in the southeast prior to settlement.
