New Jersey Tea is a low growing shrub rarely exceeding 3' in height. It flowers in April and May producing 2" to 3" long clusters of tiny white flowers at the tips of the branches. It grows in part shade on dry or moist variable soils and is most often found in open woods, woodland edges, dry grasslands, and roadside slopes. It is a non-legume nitrogen fixing plant with a woody base and herbaceous branches. New Jersey Tea is a great ornamental garden plant with fragrant showy white flowers. The foliage is eaten by rabbits and deer and numerous birds eat the seed. It is a really good pollinator conservation plant.
