Nodding Onion is a 1' to 2' tall, drought tolerant, native perennial with a naked flowering stalk and a showy globe-like head of drooping small white to pink flowers. Nodding Onion flowers in summer, preferring moist soils in full sun, but will tolerate dry soils in part shade. Nodding Onion can be easily established from seed and is commonly planted in flower gardens and wildflower meadows. It will grow under walnut trees and is reportedly eaten by ground squirrels and other rodents. It attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
