Yarrow is a 1' to 3' tall native, somewhat short lived, perennial found in all the lower 48 states. The small white flowers are in flat topped inflorescences with 10 to 20 ray flowers. Leaf blades are finely divided for a lacy, fernlike, appearance. Yarrow is a spring flowering plant preferring dry to medium well drained soils and full sun, but tolerates partial shade. Yarrow is a good drought tolerant, early spring garden plant, commonly used as a fresh cut flower and in dried arrangements. Yarrow is of special value as an early spring pollinator plant. Native Americans used the plant for pain relief, as a stimulant, and to lower fever.
