Slender Indiangrass is a 3' to 6' tall native perennial warm season clump grass. The panicles are slender, open, and most often arching. The spikelets are separated and have distinct long awns. Slender Indian Grass is restricted in native distribution to the southern states from Texas and Oklahoma to Virginia. It is usually found in dry, open woods on sandy terraces of the lowlands, often over a clay subsoil. This plant is often included in native plant gardens and restoration plantings in the native distribution range. Slender Indian Grass is a valuable wildlife habitat plant.
