Frank۪s Sedge flowers in early to mid-summer and prefers wet to moist rich soils. It requires wet conditions and is found in wet woodlands, sloughs, around seeps, swamp edges, ditches, wet prairies, and other wet areas. It often forms dense clumps from spreading rhizomes. Franks Sedge is an important wetland plant and the seed is usually included in wet meadow, wetland restoration, and wetland conservation and habitat seed mixes. It is a valued food plant for upland gamebirds, waterfowl, wading birds, and songbirds.
