ABOUT US...
In the gentle rolling hills of South Central Kentucky, Roundstone Native Seed has been producing native grasses and wildflowers for over 15 years. Founded by father and son team, Randy and John Seymour, Roundstone Native Seed grew from their desire to have native grasses established on their Upton, Kentucky farm.
Randy Seymour had served on the board for the Nature Conservancy and knew the desire of the Conservancy to reintroduce natives, however, no local seed source existed. Both Randy and John were aware of small remnant prairie areas scattered throughout Kentucky and set about hand collecting foundation seeds. The initial small garden size plots have long since been replaced by large production fields. In addition to their own production, Roundstone presently has over 30 producers growing for them.
What initially started out as a company working intrastate has grown to basically include all states bordering and east of the Mississippi River. The initial concept of environmentally sensitive collection from remnant sites in Kentucky has now been done in a host of other states in an effort to develop local ecotype seed for the future.
What sets Roundstone apart from other producers is their commitment to quality and their attention to customer service. The industry norm of high percentage of chaff and low pure live seed percentages is simply unacceptable at Roundstone. Roundstone operates under the concept that native seed should be of the same high quality as crop seed.
